General
- Principles of Virology
: Molecular Biology, Pathogenesis, and Control, S. J. Flint et al, ASM Press 1999.
- Phage and the
origins of molecular biology Expanded Edition, Edited by J. Cairns, G.S.
Stent and J.D. Watson, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press, 1992.
- The Bacteriophages, R. Calendar, editor, Plenum Press, New York, 1988.
Two volumes (1),
(2).
-
Virus Structure and Assembly, S. Casjens, ed., Jones and Bartlett, 1985.
- Molecular Biology of Bacterial Viruses, G.S. Stent, Freeman, 1963.
An excellent reference for basic bacteriophage biology and for tracking
down historical sources.
- Bacteriophages, Mark H. Adams, Interscience Publishers, Inc., New York, 1959
(Library of Congress Cat. No. 58-12722).
This out of print book, available in university libraries,
is a very good resource for teachers of virology laboratory courses.
It reviews basic features and behavior of bacteriophages generally,
and provides access to the older literature describing the basic methods
for plaque assay, microbiological and biochemical purification of
phage virions, the one step growth experiment, and other central methods.
Phage specific
