Fellowships and Awards

ASM/CDC Program in Infectious Disease and Public Health Microbiology
Two-year fellowship to conduct research in infectious disease or public health microbiology at one of the CDC national laboratories. Information, application form, and deadlines for prospective applicants.

Information on ASM support services for current fellows including how to get started, stipend payments, and benefits.

Congressional Science Fellowship
Opportunity for postdoctoral to mid-career microbiologist to spend one year on the staff of an individual congressman, congressional committee or with some other appropriate organizational unit of Congress. 

ASM International Fellowship Programs
Opportunities for research and training collaborations in the microbiological sciences internationally.

ASM/CPEP Program
Training prepares microbiologists and immunologists in clinical profession of laboratory medicine 

Morrison Rogosa Awards
Recognizes outstanding research accomplishment and potential of women scientists in Armenia, Albania, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrghyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, the Republic of Croatia, Romania, Russia, Serbia, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzebekistan who would not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy the collegiality of membership in the ASM and quick access to the current scientific information in their fields.

$1200 to enhance the careers of postdoctoral women with outstanding scientific accomplishments and potential for significant research in the area of microbiology

ASM Kadner Institute in Preparation for Careers in Microbiology
Intensive and closely guided experience in grant writing, scientific presentations, teaching, career planning and ethics

ASM Scientific Writing and Publishing Institute
Hands-on intensive training in scientific writing and publishing under mentorship of ASM Journal editors and reviewers

Travel Grants

ASM General Meeting Student Travel Grants 
$500 travel support for students presenting a poster at the ASM General Meeting. 

ASM Minority and Student Travel Grants 
$1500 travel support for post-doctoral scholars from underrepresented minority (URM) groups in the microbiological sciences or faculty from Minority Serving Institutions participate in the ASM General Meeting. 

ICAAC Travel Grants
Multiple opportunities to apply for travel funds to participate in the annual ICAAC Meeting

ASM Conference for Undergraduate Educators Travel Grant
$750 travel support for students and postdoctoral scientists presenting a poster at the ASM Conference for Undergraduate Educators.

ASM Conferences Student Travel Grants
$500 travel support to students for presenting at an ASM Conference. Please see the individual conference pages for details.

Millis-Colwell Exchange Program for Early Career Scientists
This collaboration between the American Society for Microbiology and the Australian Society for Microbiology allows for the exchange of one member from each society to present an abstract at the annual General Meeting of the other society and to spend a week at nearby research laboratory.

Heatley-Payne Exchange Program for Early Career Scientists     

Travel to the U.K. or Ireland!  This grant, offered jointly with the UK Society for General Microbiology, supports the reciprocal exchange of one member to present their research at the other society’s main conference and to visit a research laboratory in that country.

ASM member volunteers offer assistance to US minority students and professionals in foster mentoring relationships

International Mentoring Program
ASM mentor volunteers offer assistance to young scientists from all over the world, representing all fields of microbiology, and add a truly global aspect to the program
